PC Security

AIB Group are constantly looking for ways to make your Internet Banking experience more secure. Our Internet Banking and iBusiness Banking sections outline the steps we have taken to ensure our applications remain secure. We also urge you to think carefully about the measures you can take to protect your PC.

Simple do's

Keeping in mind the simple points listed below will help increase the security of your PC.

  • DO keep your anti-virus software up-to-date.

  • DO keep your anti-spyware software up-to-date.

  • DO keep your operating system up-to-date.

  • DO keep your browser up-to-date.

  • DO install a personal firewall on your computer.

  • DO make sure that, if you're sending sensitive personal information, your connection is secure. A closed padlock icon appears on the status bar and the URL will start with https:// rather than http://

  • DO make sure the security settings on your Web browser are at an adequate standard.

  • DO use secure passwords to protect access to your system. Passwords should be changed regularly.

  • DO frequently make and check back-up copies of your data and store them in a safe place.

Simple Don'ts

  • DON'T give away your Code Card, PAC or Registration number.

  • DON'T open e-mail attachments from people you don't know.

  • DON'T open e-mail attachments from people you know unless you know what's in the attachment.

  • DON'Tshare your passwords with anyone.

Importance of updates

It's important to keep operating systems and web browsers up to date by downloading patch updates from software publishers who may occasionally discover vulnerabilities in their products.

Usually there is an option that allows for automatic software updates to be prompted by the software producer. This allows for an automatic update of the software when a vulnerability is discovered and new software/patch is available to fix this.

Where to update

If you are a Microsoft user you can update your computer at: http://update.microsoft.com/

If you are a 'MAC' user you can update your computer at: http://www.apple.com/uk/support/
