Dungarvan Youthreach in Co. Waterford has received a Minibus from AIB, as part of the AIB Better Ireland Programme. The minibus will allow children from all around county Waterford to avail of the excellent facilities on offer at Youthreach in Dungarvan.
Youthreach Dungarvan was established in 1998 and is an education programme aimed at early school leavers and young single parents. It allows young people who may not have the opportunity to reach their potential in the mainstream school system, to acquire nationally recognised qualifications, which they may not otherwise gain. The minibus will transport young people, who are living in areas of rural isolation, to and from the centre and will also enable the group to bring the children out to other educational and sports facilities, including trips to the Gaeltacht and swimming classes.
Speaking on behalf of Youthreach Dungarvan, Mary Walsh commented, “A lack of transport is one of the main issues preventing young people returning to alternative educational and training programmes, such as Youthreach. We are delighted that now, local young people from all around Waterford can come here and advance their education.”
George Walsh, AIB Dungarvan, said, “Since 2001, the AIB Better Ireland Programme has donated €292,244 to 27 children’s projects in Co. Waterford. Dungarvan Youthreach is a very worthwhile cause with excellent young people involved. This donation is well deserved and will be of great benefit to many young people in Waterford.”
