AIB Debit Card

What is the AIB Debit Card?

The AIB Debit Card allows you to access your funds from your AIB Personal Current  Account. With an AIB Debit Card you can withdraw cash from ATMs and make purchases wherever the Laser or Maestro logos are displayed.

Where can I use my AIB Debit Card?

Your AIB Debit Card is widely accepted in Ireland where the Laser symbol is displayed and abroad where the Maestro symbol is displayed. You can use your card as follows:

Point of Sale (POS)

  • Pay for goods and services where the Laser symbol is displayed in Ireland and where the Maestro symbol is displayed abroad.
  • Withdraw up to EUR100 cashback from your available account balance as part of your purchase transaction at selected retail outlets. Cashback amounts at retailer's discretion.
  • Shop online where you see the Laser symbol. (Domestic transactions only)

ATM

  • Use your card for cash withdrawals from ATMs in Ireland and worldwide (up to a daily limit of EUR600) where the Banklink/LINK/Maestro symbol is displayed. Please note: at some ATM’s abroad, particularly in non European locations, the daily cash withdrawal limit may be reduced to EUR250 or less.

    Local ATM limits may also apply.
  • Top up any Meteor, O2 or Vodafone mobile with 085, 086 and 087 numbers only.
  • Change your PIN at most AIB Banklink ATMs where the card remains in the machine for the duration of the transaction.

 

What are the benefits of having an AIB Debit Card?

  • You only need one card to access your account at home or abroad; in shops and restaurants and for ATM cash withdrawals.
  • Chip and PIN technology offers greater protection against fraud.
  • Ability to pay for goods and services by phone and over the internet where Laser is accepted.
  • Cashback means you can get up to Eur100 cashback as part of a POS transaction where cashback is available. The cashback amount is at retailer's discretion.
  • You can qualify to bank free of maintenance and transaction fees each fee quarter, if you:

1. Use your AIB Debit Card to make a purchase, and

2. Make a debit transaction using AIB Phone & Internet Banking e.g. pay a bill or top up your mobile.

Who can have an AIB Debit Card?

  • Available on most AIB current accounts.  
  • Available to all persons above the age of 16 and persons between the ages of 14-16 with parental consent.

How do I get an AIB Debit Card?

You can request an AIB Debit Card through your account holding branch.

Does Government Stamp Duty apply to the AIB Debit Card?

AIB Debit Card: Government stamp duty of EUR2.50 per card applies where the card is used for either ATM/In Branch transactions or Point of Sale transactions, and EUR5 per card applies where the card is used for both.

Travel Light - Use your cards!

It is never been easier to manage your money when you are abroad.  Alongside the obvious advantages of travelling within the Eurozone, with AIB's comprehensive range of credit and debit cards you can travel even lighter knowing you can access your cash from over 370,000 ATM's worldwide or make purchases at up to 24 million locations across the globe.

Do not forget to bring some cash for immediate expenses e.g. taxis, public transport, tips, food.  Make sure to order your foreign currency notes at least ten days in advance from your local AIB branch.

TIP : It is a good idea to key this number into your mobile phone before you go.  If you forget, it is also written on the back of your card.

Top Travel Tips

  • Bring a range of payment methods, credit card, debit card, cash.  
  • Bring enough local currency for your immediate spending needs, order currency in advance.
  • Memorise your PIN for your cards. Do Not write it down on a piece of paper or store in a diary or mobile phone.
  • Please be aware that if your PIN combination is made up of your date of birth in any format we would recommend that you change this to a random combination. The fraudsters who carry out thefts of credit cards are highly skilled at discovering PINs from details contained in wallets or handbags.
  • If your AIB Credit or Debit Card is lost or stolen please call us immediately on + 353 1 269 5022 available 24 hours a day. 
  • Check the expiry date on your cards and your passport!
  • Always shield your PIN when your are using an ATM or Point of Sale terminal.
  • Don't keep your cards, money and passport together in case you lose them or they are stolen.
  • When paying for goods and services always keep your card in view.
